The Austin house with a pool, and who it's right for

If you want a vacation rental in Austin with an outdoor pool you can swim in whenever you like, there's one house in our portfolio that does it: Family Relaxation: Private Pool & Spa with Games, a four-bedroom single-family home in South Austin that sleeps up to ten. Everything else we manage in the city is an apartment, a downtown condo, or a smaller house. So the honest shape of the answer is: one home, and it happens to be well suited to exactly the kind of group that asks the question.
That's worth saying plainly, because most searches for "pool rental in Austin" surface hourly pool-sharing listings, where you book someone's backyard for two hours and leave. That is a different product. If what you want is to wake up in the house, make coffee, and have the kids in the water before anyone has found their shoes, you want a home with the pool attached.
What's actually in the backyard
The pool is heated, with a sitting spa beside it. Heating is included for the spa; pool heating is an add-on, arranged in advance, and the system can't run when it gets properly cold outside, which is the one seasonal catch worth knowing if you're booking for January.
There's a detached pool house with barn doors that open onto the yard, and it has its own full bathroom, which is the detail that quietly changes how a pool day runs: nobody tracks wet feet through the kitchen. The covered lounge, patio and outdoor seating sit alongside, with a BBQ area and utensils, and a fire pit for when the sun drops.
Mature trees ring the pool, so leaves land in it between the twice-weekly cleanings. A skimmer, net and robot vacuum are there for the two minutes of upkeep that takes. We'd rather you knew that than discovered it.
Ten people, four bedrooms, five beds
This is the part that makes it work for families and for groups travelling together. The four bedrooms are spread across a king primary suite with its own bathroom, two queen rooms, and a den set up with a queen. The fifth bed is in the pool house, which is the room people quietly compete for: a detached queen with its own bathroom, good for grandparents, a couple joining the group, or a teenager who wants a door between themselves and everyone else.
Three and a half bathrooms across the property, driveway parking for four cars plus free street parking, and a chef's kitchen with island seating. Standard occupancy is eight, with a maximum of ten and additional fees above eight, so build your list before you book rather than after. Parties and events aren't permitted here. It's a neighbourhood house, designed for a group that wants to cook and swim, not host.
When the pool stops being enough
Four days in, someone will want to be indoors. The game room has a convertible table that does billiards and ping pong, which is more useful than it sounds on an afternoon when it's too hot to be outside between about two and five. Rain, in Austin, is rarely the problem. Heat is.
The house sits in South Austin, about a quarter of an hour from Zilker Park and 6th Street, and roughly the same from Austin-Bergstrom. One thing to factor in: there are active train tracks directly behind the house, and trains run at various hours. Light sleepers should know that going in.
The days you'll build around it
South Austin earns the location. Zilker Park and Barton Springs are the obvious pairing with a pool trip, the spring-fed kind of cold that resets you, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt runs from the Spyglass trailhead into miles of hiking and natural swimming holes. Both are close enough to do in a morning and be back in your own water by lunch.
For food, Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ does brisket tacos that justify the queue, and Matt's El Rancho is the old-guard Tex-Mex room with the margaritas. Radio Coffee & Beer runs coffee, local beer, food trucks and live music in one outdoor space, which solves a lot of logistical problems when half your group wants breakfast and the other half wants a pint. Meanwhile Brewing has yard games and room for children. Central Market at Westgate is five minutes out and the sensible first stop on arrival day if you're feeding ten.
Further afield, the Hill Country and the lakes are an easy day out: Lake Travis sits west of the city along the 620 corridor, which slows to a crawl on summer Saturday afternoons. Leave early or leave late.
The other Austin homes, and why they're not this one
None of our other Austin properties has an outdoor pool, and a few searches get muddled here, so to be specific:
Relaxing Wellness Escape with Sauna & Cold Plunge, a two-bedroom house in Travis Heights sleeping four, has a private sauna and cold plunge and a patio with seating, but no pool. It's a minute's walk from the Lady Bird Lake trails, under five minutes from downtown, and the kitchen has a six-burner Wolf range. Big Stacy's spring-fed neighbourhood pool is two minutes away if swimming matters more than owning the water.
Charming Retreat in the Center of Downtown Austin is a one-bedroom condo for two in the old Commodore Perry building on Brazos, with a rooftop deck and a walk score of 99. You're steps from 6th Street, Congress, Rainey and the Convention Center.
New Downtown Atx! 30 day plus! is a two-bedroom apartment sleeping four, built for longer stays, with a shared courtyard grill and a reserved parking spot. The Capitol is a short walk, West 6th barely further.
Texas Capitol Loft is a single-guest one-bedroom in Clarksville with vaulted ceilings and a city view. One guest only, not suitable for children, and the owner lives nearby and hands over the key in person.
For a couple, a solo traveller or a work stay, those four are the stronger choices and the pool question is beside the point. For a family or a group of eight to ten who want a swimming pool as the centre of the trip, the South Austin house is the one to book, and in summer it goes early.
Before you reserve
Two things to settle with us directly. First, pool heating: if you're travelling outside the warm months, tell us when you book, because it needs notice and there's a temperature floor below which it can't run at all. Second, your real headcount, since the fee structure changes above eight guests.
Beyond that, the house allows long-term stays, which matters if you're relocating, working a season in Austin, or bringing a family down for a month rather than a week. Every home we manage is inspected between guests and cleaned to hotel standard, and there's a local team here rather than a call centre somewhere else. Book direct and the rate is guaranteed to be the best we offer. If you want help putting the days together once you've got the house, ask: that's what the concierge side of the business is for.
